The Friends of Redtail Society will hold their Annual General Meeting at 1pm, Saturday March 29, at the Elmfield Hall,  446 Elmfield Road, NS.

We welcome Ethan Huner as Guest Speaker for this year’s AGM.

His talk is titled The American eel: Mystical Histories and a Life in Peril”

The American eel is a mysterious, snake-like fish species with a complex life history. It was once the most abundant freshwater species throughout much of eastern North America. Considered slimy and gross to some, a sacred messenger and important food source to others, the eel has long fascinated people throughout its global range from Greenland to Venezuela. The eel faces many threats including hydroelectric dams and the lucrative black-market trade. The future of eel is uncertain. Join us as we explore the hidden world of the eel and gain an appreciation for its plights from the Maritimes and beyond and the ongoing conservation efforts to preserve this species.

Ethan Huner is an FRS  member, an avid naturalist/environmental educator and A Natural Resources Strategist with the Algonquins of Ontario. He has been working in eel advocacy for over a decade. Original from Pictou County he currently resided in Pembroke, Ontario.
